 Tibetan "brass" singing bowls appear to be the ancestors of today's crystal singing bowls. Although it very well could be the other way around! These "brass" bowls were traditionally made of seven different metals and the exact formula for manufacture was handed down from father to son. In creating these sacred objects, it is said that a prayer was repeated for each blow of the hammer as the shape came into being. Production of these bowls stopped over forty years ago, when China invaded Tibet. The history of the Tibetan bowls is steeped in mystery, as it is not a part of Buddhism and is generally agreed to have its roots in Shamanism. There are those who feel that the use of crystal bowls for healing and meditation was widely used in Atlantis. When that culture collapsed, the knowledge of sound healing continued and went out to different continents.  Singing crystal bowls came into being less than twenty years ago. Made of quartz crystal, they are a byproduct of the computer industry and are produced worldwide. Originally, the industry only grew microchips at exact frequencies. Now, these beautiful bowls are available to the general public for vibrational healing, meditation, chanting, toning and musical accompaniment. They are made of the purest silica sand, spun in a centrifugal mold and heated at extremely high temperatures. The wall of each bowl is calibrated to an exact thickness. Produced in this manner, every bowl has a specific frequency and tone. This process of quartz fusion creates a singing crystal bowl of absolute timbre. Clear bowls are made from cut sections of large diameter quartz tubing, melted and fused at one end. The tones produced by playing the surfaces of these bowls are astounding.  Clear crystal bowls range in size from 6 to 12 inches. These fabulous bowls are much smaller than the frosted bowls. They are very light and can easily be held in the hand and played. The sound is very intense, pure and sensitive, spanning 5 octaves. They are easy to transport and store, and very convenient for the healing practitioner.  Frosted crystal bowls range from 10 to 24 inches. Much heavier, with thicker walls, they are very durable and provide more reverberation. They are less expensive than their clear counterparts and produce deep tones, with the larger bowls producing lower octaves. They are great for group meditations, healing, rituals and musical accompaniment. They are also played on a rubber O ring with a suede-covered mallet (included with each bowls). Frosted Crystal Bowls
  
         
  practitioner bowl   Practitioner crystal bowls are some of the newer products for healing with sound. They come in both frosted and clear styles. Available in 5 and 7 inch diameters they are approximately 13 inches high. All notes are available. They have a crystal rod attached to their rounded base for you to hold in your hand. The result is a crystal goblet that is very easy to hold and play. It powerfully moves sound around the room as you move. Resonance from this bowl continues long after the mallet leaves the rim of the bowl. This is truly a precision healing tool.
